Zenshin Martial Arts is a multidisciplinary martial arts training centre based in Geelong, Victoria. We offer a truly comprehensive range of training for children and adults. Our training incorporates traditional martial arts, contemporary martial arts, cardiovascular training, Black Belt training, and more.
Training is provided by highly qualified staff, including founder Australasian Hall of Fame and World Karate Union Hall of Fame inductee Hanshi Mervyn Nelis. We place an extremely high emphasis on systematic, highly focused and structured training for our students.
Mervyn Nelis has been studying many self defence systems for over 55 years. He has travelled extensively overseas constantly seeking out the latest methods of personal self defence practices.
He attained Instructor Level in Krav Maga (Israeli Military Combat System) at the Israeli Headquarters. He also attained Instructor Level in CDT ( Non Deadly Tactical Self Defence System ) at their American Headquarters. He has been instructing Karate for over 50 years in Geelong.
Mervyn has also worked in the security industry for over 40 years and has formulated LifeSafe through all of his experiences over the many years.
In 2003 Hanshi was inducted into the Australian Hall of Fame and World Karate Union Hall of Fame. In 2004 this prestigious organisation promoted Hanshi to 7th Degree Black Belt. In 2013 Hanshi was again promoted to 8th Degree Black Belt by the Australian Hall of Fame and World Karate Union Hall of Fame.
Hanshi teaches full-time and holds degrees in Psychology and Social Anthropology.
Sensei Jai Nelis (4th Degree Black Belt):
Full-time instructor Belmont Headquarters.
Certificate Level 4 Fitness Instructor including a Diploma in Sport. Has graduated in Zenshin Instructor Accreditation Program. Instructs all classes alongside Hanshi.
